Fungicide Rotation: Azoxystrobin and Propiconazole (S2E13)

The primary reason for fungicide rotation is to minimize resistance. Essentially, fungicide rotation involves alternating products that have different modes of action so that you avoid back-to-back treatments with any one site-specific fungicide.

In this video I rotate between 2 of the mostly commonly used fungicides. Firstly, I use Azoxystrobin to target some broader range fungus. Secondly, I use Propiconazole 14.3 to target the dollar spot. I routinely have issues with dollar spot. Therefore, I recommend rotating these two fungicides.

The dollar spot was unaffected by the DiseaseEX because the active ingredient does not target it. As a result, the Propiconazole cleared it up within one week.

DiseaseEx (Azoxystrobin)

Here is some information from their web site:

  •  Fungicide offers a formula to cover a wide range of problem lawn diseases. This new product is fast acting and continues to control lawns diseases for up to 4 weeks. Scotts® DiseaseEx™ controls common diseases like: Brown Patch, Stem & Stripe Rust, Red Thread, Powdery Mildew, Pythium, Southern & Typhula Blight, Pink Patch, Nercrotic Ring Spot, Summer Patch, Yellow Patch and more.
  • Treats up to 5,000 sq ft per bag.

I chose to use DiseaseEx because I purchased it at a relatively low price, there are many other options out there that include Azoxystrobin as the active ingredient.

Propiconazole

Here is some information from their web site:

  • Propiconazole 14.3 Fungicide is a broad spectrum fungus and disease control product that systemically kills a range of diseases and protect a variety of flowers, cool and warm season grasses, shrubs, and trees. The microemulsion formulation helps the product stay mixed once it is placed in a sprayer, produces less of an odor, and efficiently covers a lot of foliage. Controlling diseases for 7 days to an entire season, depending on the disease or fungus, the product is a great fungicide to mix with other products, to control a wider range of diseases.

In conclusion, there are a variety of products on the market today. These two mentioned are readily available online or at the big box stores.
