Soil Test with Soil Savvy (S1E2)

Do you have a healthy diet? If not, do you take vitamins? Well, our lawn is no different! Really, your lawn is like any living thing, it needs proper nutrition. Your lawn needs a checkup, too! ? That is where a simple soil test can help.

There are a variety of soil test options out there, for example:

  • By mail (Soil Savvy, MySoil, ThinkSoil, etc)
  • County Agriculture Extension office
  • Local landscape company (SiteOne, Ewing’s Irrigation, etc.)
  • Local college AG Department

Most soil nutrients are readily found in the soil provided that its pH level is within the 6 to 6.5 range. However, when the pH level rises, many nutrients (like phosphorus, iron, etc.) may become less available. When it drops, they may even reach toxic levels, which can adversely affect the plants. Getting a soil test can help take the guesswork out of fixing any of these nutrient issues. There’s no need to spend money on fertilizers that aren’t necessary.
